Writing is freedom. You may not realise it, but it is.
Writing is casting magic spells and slaying the dragons. It is being your own hero and showing yourself that you have the skills to fight the monsters in the closet or the ones found in real life. Writing is travelling to other worlds where there are aliens that look like goop monsters, only to realise that they are more like you than you imagine. It’s travelling forward in time, to what the future may turn out to be, good or bad, but it’s also travelling to the past to see what what has transpired before, and what you can learn from it.
It isn’t just about writing stories that have a moral behind them. It’s about expressing what happened to you in real life, how you felt about it, and how you deal with what happens after. It’s about empowering yourself and showing yourself that you can be anything, as long as you roll up your sleeves and get down to work.
That is what writing is.
